What you should know about TSB Showplace
In 1970 it was offered for sale, with the greatest interest from an Auckland man who planned to bulldoze the site and build a supermarket. The New Plymouth Operatic Society a voluntary community organisation under the presidency of John Murphy then stepped in to raise funds to purchase the building and created the New Plymouth Opera House Trust and once again it was revived as a performing arts venue. Sutherland managed to raise an additional 114,00 from private individuals, businesses, local groups and the Arts Council. In 1997, struggling to sustain the venue as well as produce high quality shows the New Plymouth Opera House Trust handed management of the theatre to the New Plymouth District Council NPDC . The TSB Showplace is located at Devon Street West in New Plymouth city centre.
The doors to the TSB Showplace open 1 hour prior to the performance and doors to the theatre usually open 30 minutes prior to the start of the performance. We recommend that you arrive at least 30 minutes prior the performance starting. There will be an announcement before the start of the performance asking you to make your way to your seats. Drinks are available to purchase pre show and during the interval at our bars within the TSB Showplace.
If you wish to take your drink into the theatre with you, please ask a member of the bar staff for a plastic glass. The majority of performances include an interval, approximately midway through the performance. An announcement will be made at the end of the interval asking you to return to your seat. Unauthorised signage and promotional products, equipment or banners including clothing items

The venue is a great space for a range of different events including corporate functions, dinners, weddings, themed events, seminars, workshops, exhibitions, expos, award ceremonies and conferences.
